I began making my own skin moisturizes in 2017 after developing a light case of eczema on my lower extremities. I had spent years experimenting with over-the-counter skincare products that were counterproductive to truly moisturizing my skin, at the same time, using the topical steroid cream prescribed by my Dermatologist.  Although the medication relieved the flare ups, it did nothing to prevent it and I was seeking something deeper than "relief" which led me to exploring all natural skin care alternatives that contained the necessary nutrients to repair, restore, and protect my entire skin. By now, it was clear to me that my healing was not going to be found in the skincare aisle of a retail store. Instead, it would have to be personally formulated in my kitchen using ingredients that I could identify with... some ingredients that can be consumed.  I fell upon an amazing discovery - the skin loves nature and all of our everyday skin care needs can be found there. I took my love for Shea butter as a gift of inspiration, as it's a skin super-food that is naturally rich in a concentration of vitamins A, E, and F - just for starters! I instantly began to see the benefits of my simple concoction of raw Shea and organic coconut oil as my eczema was starting to get some relief, but I'd later find out that there was so much more to add to my concoction.

In 2009, I moved to Jamaica with plans of opening up "Joy's Specialtea Café", an island café specializing in organic loose-leaf teas. As an already lover of Tea and its rich culture, history, and medicinal properties, I became aware of the impressive list of benefits that teas added to the skin as well as the body. The high amounts of antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids, and phytochemicals inspired me to formulate these gifts into my simple concoction.  Unfortunately, I was faced with the unexpected challenges of starting a business abroad and I (miserably) decided to return back home to the U.S., but not without my inspiration and desire to continue my journey in tow.

In 2017, Shea Specialteas Skincare was born and served a small community of friends, family, and coworkers. This small, but supportive community dedicated themselves to using my products and they responded with loads of positive and beneficial feedback which pushed me to launch Shea Specialteas Skincare as a growing line of gentle handmade skincare products to share with a larger community.  I am passionate about creating a completely transparent line of products that are free of harmful synthetic ingredients but are loaded with nature's power, strength, and most of all LOVE! 

To my small community who has supported, pushed, and inspired me to keep going forward, "I thank you over and over again and then again!"
